About Us

Welcome to The Santanero, your local independent community newspaper.

Founded by Daniel Diaz and Lucia Gonzalez on April 20, 2022, The Santanero was born out of a deep desire to bridge the gap between the people of Santa Ana and their local government. Our mission is to keep every Santanero—residents and businesses alike—informed and engaged with the community's latest developments.

Our Mission

At The Santanero, we believe that an informed community is a strong community. Whether it's election coverage, local events, or important announcements, our goal is to provide you with accurate and timely information that empowers you to make informed decisions and stay connected to the heart of Santa Ana.

Our Name

The term "Santanero" is more than just a name; it represents our inclusive approach to serving all Santa Ana residents and businessowners. We are dedicated to delivering news that matters to everyone in our diverse community, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Our Unique Status

We are neither a for-profit nor a non-profit organization. We believe in the original precedent set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for news services to be a public service rather than a commercial enterprise. The Santanero operates as a dedicated community news source. This allows us to focus purely on serving the public interest without the influence of commercial pressures.

What We Cover

  • Due to our team being limited in their abilities to cover all 27-square miles of Santa Ana, we are reporting heavily on local elections, ballot measures, and city council meetings. (Last updated 07/01/2024).
