The Santanero launches summer tote bag campaign

The Santanero is proud to launch its first-ever merch item: a beautifully designed tote bag inspired by the city’s official flower, the jacaranda. Although the annual bloom annoys some residents, these trees are deeply rooted in Santa Ana and have witnessed change and seen the city blossom as it is today.
The $27 (plus tax where applicable) tote is available now in either black or natural (light tan) and in two versions: "Santanero" and "Santanera". Head to the merch shop to buy now.
Since its founding in April 2022, The Santanero has been powered entirely by Daniel Diaz himself — reporting, editing, designing, distributing, and now, merchandising. For over two years, the paper has operated solely on Daniel’s own wages, without outside funding or subscriptions.
“I don’t mind. I started this paper because Santa Ana deserves a voice that’s ours,” says Diaz. “But let’s be real — costs are rising. The tote is one way to keep the paper free for all while giving people something beautiful in return.”
All profits from the tote bag sales will go directly toward covering the paper’s ongoing web hosting, faster complete our website maintenance, as well as future equipment needs — cameras, batteries, and other tools to help report on the events and stories happening across the city.
Despite increasing expenses, The Santanero remains committed to staying free for everyone. The tote bag campaign is a chance for readers to show support without paywalls — and look good doing it.
The jacaranda tote is available now while supplies last.
