Editorial Ethics & Standards

Effective April 1, 2026

1. Overview

Santanero Media Group, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to producing accurate, fair, and responsible journalism across The Santanero and KSNG-DB “Santanero Radio” (collectively, the “Services”). This Editorial Ethics & Standards policy outlines the principles that guide our reporting, publishing, and editorial decision-making.

Our goal is to serve the public with information that is clear, reliable, and directly relevant to the community we cover.

2. Accuracy and Corrections

We strive to ensure that all published information is accurate and based on reliable sources. When errors occur, we will correct them as promptly as possible. Corrections may be noted within the original content or updated directly for clarity, depending on the nature of the error.

We encourage readers to report potential inaccuracies by contacting us.

3. Fairness and Independence

We aim to present information fairly and without intentional bias. Our editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or outside interests.

We do not allow advertising relationships or financial considerations to affect newsroom coverage, story selection, or editorial judgment.

4. Separation of Editorial and Advertising

Santanero Media Group, LLC maintains a strict separation between editorial content and advertising. Sponsored content, if accepted, will be clearly labeled to distinguish it from independent reporting.

Advertising does not constitute endorsement, and advertisers do not influence editorial content.

5. Coverage Scope

Our coverage is focused on the City of Santa Ana. We prioritize reporting on events, issues, people, and institutions within Santa Ana and those that directly affect its residents.

We may report on matters outside the city only when there is a clear and direct connection to Santa Ana, such as impacts on residents, local institutions, or issues of relevance to the community.

6. Clarity Over Style

We prioritize clarity, accessibility, and understanding in our writing. While we may follow general journalistic conventions, our content may not always adhere strictly to Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.

Our editorial approach favors language that is direct, understandable, and useful to our audience, even when that means departing from traditional newsroom formatting or style conventions.

7. Content Standards

We do not knowingly publish false, misleading, or deceptive information. We avoid content that promotes harm, harassment, or unlawful activity. We also apply discretion when covering sensitive topics to balance transparency with responsibility.

8. Sources and Attribution

We aim to rely on credible sources and provide appropriate context when reporting information. When possible, we attribute information to its source. In certain cases, sources may be withheld to protect privacy or safety, consistent with responsible journalistic practices.

9. Editorial Discretion

We reserve the right to determine what content is published, updated, or removed. Editorial decisions are made based on relevance, accuracy, and alignment with our standards.

We may update or remove content over time to maintain accuracy or reflect new information.

10. Public Interest and Accountability

Nothing in our policies limits our ability to report on matters of public interest. We are committed to holding institutions, organizations, and individuals accountable when appropriate, while maintaining fairness and accuracy.
