16-year-old killed by Santa Ana Police following domestic disturbance call
A 16-year-old male was fatally shot by Santa Ana police officers Sunday night following a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex near south Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard, authorities said.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:30 PM on Sunday to the 3400 block of South Main Street after receiving a report of a family disturbance.
Police said the 53-year old caller reported that his girlfriend's 16-year-old son was inside the apartment allegedly under the influence of an unknown substance, vandalizing property, and had stabbed him with a knife.
"When our officers arrived, they locate the suspect who remained armed with a knife, and during the encounter, an officer involved shooting occurred," said Public Information Officer Natalie Garcia. "The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, and our officers did not sustain any injuries."
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. The Santa Ana Police Department's Homicide Unit, the department's Internal Affairs Division, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office are conducting parallel investigations into the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Santa Ana Police Department.
