SANTA ANA, Calif. — Gerry Serrano has “been separated” from working with the City’s police union officials said Monday.
“Mr. Serrano has been separated from City service pending retirement pursuant to a confidential personnel matter,” said Paul Eakins, the city’s public information officer.
For years, Serrano led a controversial position in Santa Ana politics, filing recall attempts for a few years and ending it with a recall against Councilmember Jessie Lopez (Ward 3) and another pending against Thai Viet Phan (Ward 1).
In addition, Serrano lost multiple lawsuits against the city, forcing the union to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees.
Tomorrow, the City Council is expected to discuss recall measures and scheduling of the special election.
With Serrano now out at the union, the City awaits announcement of the union’s new president.
