Westminster resident arrested after allegedly doing drifts during World Cup Celebration
Santa Ana Police arrested a Westminster resident after allegedly drifting his vehicle in Downtown after México's win against Czechia, causing $15,000 in damages.
Santa Ana Police announced Thursday the arrest of 27-year-old David Martinez, a Westminster resident accused of performing donut drifts during a World Cup celebration in Downtown Santa Ana.
According to police, investigators authored and obtained a search warrant for Martinez's white Infiniti, which was served Thursday. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.
A video shared by the Santa Ana Police Department appeared to show similar footage previously posted on social media of the car performing donuts at the intersection of Fourth Street and Broadway near the historic Spurgeon clock tower.
The swift arrest came less than 24 hours after post-match celebrations erupted following México's 3-0 victory over Czechia, drawing hundreds of fans to Downtown Santa Ana and along Bristol Street.
Martinez is charged with felony vandalism and reckless driving.
Police have not said how investigators identified the vehicle or driver. Witnesses stated in the social media post they saw a drone flying over the celebration, though it remains unclear whether it was operated by law enforcement or by someone attending the gathering.
It is also unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident. The Santanero has requested additional information from police and will update this story if a response is received.
